The Magical Flute of Sri Sarabha Sastri !!!

We are preserving the Avathara Purushan of 19th century Sri Sarabha Sastrigal's flute for more than 100 years. Thanks to Late Balaji Mama (God father of present generation) who approached Sastri Ji cousin's and got it back to Sabha. Thanks to Sastri family members who generously donated the million dollar flute to Sabha.

I have taken the photo using my mobile. Will upload a better one in future :-)

The holes in the flutes are so close & the present generation musicians will find very difficult to use it.

Jai Sri Ram!!!

Venuganam Sri Sarabha Sastrigal

Sri Sarabha Sastrigal was born in the year 1872 to Sri Viswanatha Sastri & Smt. Dharmambal. He had a very auspicious start in music in a congenial atmosphere, though he lost his eye sight at a very young age of 3 years. He was initiated in music under his maternal uncle Sri Kuppusamy Sastri of Thiruvadi near Thiruvaiyaru and in the later years Manambuchavadi Sri Venkatasubba Iyer, one of the disciples of saint Sri Thiyagaraja. Sri Sarabha Sastrigal also learned the intricacies of flute from Sri Govindha Nayanakarar. The credit of promoting the flute to the status of a primary concert instrument belongs to Sri Sarabha Sastrigal alone.

Sri Sarabha Sastrigal has also composed more than 500 Sahityas especially for Nayanmar charithrams, in various languages. Harikatha vidwan Soolamangalam Sri. Vaidhyanatha Bhagavathar used to handle Sri Sarabha Sastri's Sahityas in his discourses.

Palani Krishna Iyer, Ghatam Vidwan, Pudukkottai Mampoondiya Pillai, Dakshnamoorthy Pillai, Tiruvaiyaru Sri Subramaniya Iyer, Tirukodikaval Sri Krishna Iyer, Tirumarugal Sri Natesa nayanakarar, Ettayapuram Sri Ramachandra Bhagavathar, Srimathi Dhanam ammal are some of the contemporaries of Sri Sarabha Sastrigal. Sangeetha Kalanithi, Palladam Sri Sanjeeva Rao was one of the leading disciples of Sri Sarabha Sastri, Like Adi Sankara, Swami Vivekananda & Maharaja Swathi Tirunal, Sri Sarabha Sastrigal died at the young age of 33 years in the year 1904 at Kumbakonam.
