About Sri Rama Bhajanai Sabha and Sri Venuganam Sarabha Sastri

Sri Rama Bhajanai Sabha

                 Sri Rama Bhajanai Sabha, Kumbakonam founded and nurtured by none other than the famous Venuganam Sri Sarabha Sastrigal about 125 years ago occupies a unique place among various cultural and service organisations.

                 Sri Rama Bhajanai Sabha, Kumbakonam remains committed to its vision of being the premier Sabha that serves the cultural and religious needs of the Hindu society of current and future generations and be the hub of vibrant culture and service oriented programs. With the grace of lord Sri Rama, the sabha is progressing towards this vision by celebrating Sri Rama Navami Utasavams, Sri Radha Kalyana Mahotsavam every year, Sri Kanchi Kamakoti peetam Maha Pariyava Jayanthi, Bhajans on every Ekadasi days, organising lectures on Srimath Vlamiki Ramayana, bhagavadham etc and offering community services including Annadhanams during festivals.

Venuganam Sri Sarabha Sastrigal

              Sri Sarabha Sastrigal was born in the year 1872 to Sri Viswanatha Sastri & Smt. Dharmambal. He had a very auspicious start in music in a congenial atmosphere, though he lost his eye sight at a very young age of 3 years. He was initiated in music under his maternal uncle Sri Kuppusamy Sastri of Thiruvadi near Thiruvaiyaru and in the later years Manambuchavadi Sri Venkatasubba Iyer, one of the disciples of saint Sri Thiyagaraja. Sri Sarabha Sastrigal also learned the intricacies of flute from Sri Govindha Nayanakarar. The credit of promoting the flute to the status of a primary concert instrument belongs to Sri Sarabha Sastrigal alone.

            Sri Sarabha Sastrigal has also composed more than 500 Sahityas especially for Nayanmar charithrams, in various languages. Harikatha vidwan Soolamangalam Sri. Vaidhyanatha Bhagavathar used to handle Sri Sarabha Sastri's Sahityas in his discourses.

            Palani Krishna Iyer, Ghatam Vidwan, Pudukkottai Mampoondiya Pillai, Dakshnamoorthy Pillai, Tiruvaiyaru Sri Subramaniya Iyer, Tirukodikaval Sri Krishna Iyer, Tirumarugal Sri Natesa nayanakarar, Ettayapuram Sri Ramachandra Bhagavathar, Srimathi Dhanam ammal are some of the contemporaries of Sri Sarabha Sastrigal. Sangeetha Kalanithi, Palladam Sri Sanjeeva Rao was one of the leading disciples of Sri Sarabha Sastri, Like Adi Sankara, Swami Vivekananda & Maharaja Swathi Tirunal, Sri Sarabha Sastrigal died at the young age of 33 years in the year 1904 at Kumbakonam.

          A trust under the name and style of "Venuganam Sri Sarabha Sastrigal Memorial Trust" has been formed & functioning, organising music, cultural & service oriented programs & the trust is managed by leading personalities. The trust has recently renovated the ground floor of Sri Rama Bhajanai Sabha premises at an estimated of INR 30 lacks & currently 1st floor is under construction at the estimated of 5 lacks. We appeal all of you to donate liberally for the speedy completion of the construction of first floor.
